What are SATA Questions on NCLEX?
Select All That Apply (SATA) questions are one of the most challenging question types on the NCLEX. Unlike traditional multiple choice where you pick one answer, SATA requires you to select ALL correct options from a list of 5-6 choices. There is no partial credit — you must get every option correct.
SATA Strategy That Works
- Treat each option independently: Read each option as a true/false statement. Ask yourself "Is this always true for this condition or situation?"
- Do not look for patterns: SATA questions can have 2, 3, 4, or 5 correct answers. Never assume there must be exactly 3 correct answers.
- Use the nursing process: Assessment options are usually correct. Implementation without assessment first is usually wrong.
- Priority concepts apply: ABC (airway, breathing, circulation) and safety are almost always correct options.
- Eliminate absolutes carefully: Words like "always" and "never" can be correct in SATA unlike in single-answer questions.
